| Fiberoptic Line Problem Interrupts Cell Service Across Eastern Idaho Posted: 03 Dec 2010 06:31 PM PST IDAHO FALLS, Idaho -- If you are having trouble making calls from your cell phone, you aren't alone.A Qwest Communications fiberoptic line went out of service on Friday afternoon, which started the problems, Verizon Wireless Assistant Manager David Davenport said. The line services cell phone towers of several cell phone companies. When the line went down, it caused 26 towers across eastern Idaho and 15 in Utah to stop as well, Davenport said. This has caused customers to flood the Verizon Wireless store at 17th Street and Channing Way in Idaho Falls. Traffic was backed up in both directions as people tried to turn into the already overflowing shopping center.Verizon Wireless sales associates said they've had customers from other cell phone service providers, including Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T, in the store Friday night with the same problems.Quest spokesman Bob Gravely told Local News 8 this evening that the fiberoptic line was out of service from 4:45 pm to 5:50. He said they are still investigating what went wrong.
