“PSA: If You Can, Switch!” |
| Posted: 04 Mar 2011 01:24 PM PST If you can, switch to Virgin Mobile's Beyond Talk plan. It's cheap, and I love it. I don't spend a lot of time on the phone, so I've never been much of a cell phone user. I've had a simple pay-as-you-go plan from Virgin Mobile for years, and it's served me well and kept my expenses down. But I've always liked the idea of having a phone that makes e-mail and messaging accessible from anywhere (I know, I know, it's about time I caught up with the 21st century). Virgin recently started selling the LG Optimus V, which is an Android 2.2 phone, and I decided it was finally time to take the plunge. Virgin doesn't sell the higher-end smartphones with a pay-as-you-go plan, so I had to switch to one of its Beyond Talk plans. There wasn't a contract involved; all I had to do was select which plan I wanted: • $25 per month for 300 minutes of talk time As I said, I'm not much of a talker so 300 minutes a month would be plenty for me. Here's the best part about the Beyond Talk plans: all of them include unlimited data. Yep, you heard me right, UNLIMITED DATA!!! I'm paying $25 per month for 300 minutes of talk time and unlimited data. That's less than the data plan from many other carriers. I've had the phone for about two weeks now, and I love the features and apps that the Android provides. Virgin Mobile uses the same network as Sprint. Where I live and work, 3G connectivity has been very good. When I tell my friends how much I'm paying per month for service, their jaws usually drop, and they tell me how they pay close to $100 a month. So I'm spreading the word…If you don't have a contract and you want to save yourself some money, you should seriously consider making a switch. You can always bail if you're getting spotty coverage. If you're already a Sprint customer and get good coverage, these Beyond Talk plans seem like a no-brainer.
