CHARLOTTE — It's happened to many of us: dropped calls, static noise, and busy signals.

Cell phone users say it's both aggravating and frustrating when any of those things happen. A recent study showed these frustrations happen in Charlotte more often than in any other city.

For the last six months, J.D. Powers and Associates studied cell phone call quality around the country and focused on 27 large cities. Tampa, FL ranks the best in call quality based on cell phone user survey results. The study shows that Charlotte's cell service quality is considered the worst out of the 27 cities.

J.D. Powers and Associates spokesperson Kirk Parsons said Charlotte's tree canopy could be to blame. The study also ranks service providers by the number of problems per 100 calls. Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon customers report an average of 10 problems. AT&T customers report 16.

All four of the cell phone service providers noted on the study tell News 14 Carolina that J.D. Powers' study doesn't reflect their own internal statistics. Spokesperson for those companies say they will continue to invest heavily in the Charlotte market.
